Reading Quizzes?
I'm starting to wonder if our class needs the motivation of quizzes on the assigned readings in order to stimulate discussions of these texts. Please, no quizzes! I think it would help if you gave us something to look for or note when we're reading. It's one thing to read "critically", but the question is, what is "critical"? Are you looking to see what we think of the material, of the prose, or the topic? What about supporting evidence, etc?
Help us out a little.
Fair enough. Though I've been emphasizing narrative structures and techniques in our discussions of the texts, I also want to know what you think about these stories and how you react to them. I will make some concrete suggestions about how to approach the readings in my next blog posting.
